The Hinge of Fate: Churchill's Route to Power

May 1940: Britain stands on the edge of defeat in World War 2 as Germany have stormed through Europe and now site just across the English Channel. Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain is thoroughly unpopular and Britain now has the choice of two men to take over: Lord Halifax or Winston Churchill. This walk takes us on Churchill's route to power and shows us how in one month he stood up to all to take control of Britain.

Our walk starts at Green Park Station and takes us through Royal and ceremonial Westminster where we meet our cast of players including Winston Churchill, beloved by the public and keen on fighting on in the war; Lord Halifax, the man of the establishment and keen on seeking possible peace; King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, the Royals who wouldn't leave; Benito Mussolini, the middleman; and Giro, the only Nazi to be buried in London.

The walk takes us through the war cabinet crisis as the British try to decide what to do and how it all came to a head at one cabinet meeting that would change British history forever.

Our walk ends at the Houses of Parliament.
